75 year old attacked in her home

(Filed September 30, 2010) Marshall County Sheriffs Deputies responded to Serenity Shores off of Barge Island Road near Fairdealing when a 75-year-old female, Dottie Woodrum, reported that at approximately 10:00 p.m. the previous night she had been robbed. According to Detective Dan Melone, the victim heard a knock at the rear door and as she reached the door to see who was knocking, three males burst into the room.

 

The males, believed to be in their teens to twenties, tied the woman up and took items from the residence to include money, jewelry, and medications. The victim received minor injuries and the suspects fled on foot. The investigation leads investigators to believe that the suspects were picked up by an accomplice.

A reward of up to $1000 will be paid for information leading to an arrest.

Man faces murder charges after crash

(Filed September 27, 2010) On Sunday, September 26, Brad T. Chandler 32, of Benton, was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence and Murder.

Deputy Steven Oakley was dispatched to Benton-Briensburg Road around 5:53 p.m. in reference to an injury accident. The driver of the vehicle, Chandler, had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on him and advised the officers that he had been drinking prior to the accident. The accident resulted in a fatality of the passenger, Charlie W. Chancellor, age 32, of Benton. According to Marshall County Sheriffs Office, the vehicle was traveling around a curve on Benton-Briensburg Road and left the roadway striking a tree head on. Mr. Chancellor was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chandler was taken to the Marshall County Detention Center after being discharged from the Marshall County Hospital.

Two charged for sexual abuse, rape and sodomy involving children

(Filed September 24, 2010) A four month long investigation led by Detective Sgt. Matt Hilbrecht, led to the arrest of David Brown, of Benton, KY., after a fourteen year old female stated that he was making inappropriate comments to her. The investigations led to multiple victims being identified in this case. Brown was charged on 09-22-2010 with four counts of sexual abuse 1st degree and twelve counts of sodomy 1st degree. Brown was lodged in Marshall County Jail. Bond was set at $20,000.

Tre’von Hill, age 19, of Paducah, KY., was arrested after a 13 year old victim’s mother found Hill in the child’s bed. The investigation by Detective Sgt. Hilbrecht lead to Hill being charged with 12 counts of rape 2nd degree and 12 counts of sodomy 2nd degree. Hill was lodged in the Marshall County Jail.

Mother found drunk,                      jailed for leaving child unattended

(Filed September 15, 2010) Shannon D. Hunter, 41, was arrested after deputies were called to Cambridge Shores Drive regarding a child left unattended on September 14 at 8:15 p.m.  Hunter allegedly left her 8-year-old son in her home, alone, for approximately one hour. The child went to look for Hunter and found her lying on the ground in the woods. The child then went down the road to a friend’s house. A passing motorist called the sheriff’s dept. after almost hitting the child with their vehicle.

Upon arrival, deputies located Hunter lying in her yard under the influence of alcohol and could not tell them where her son was.

Hunter was arrested and charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree and Alcohol Intoxication in a Public Place. Hunter was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.

Livingston County forest ranger         airlifted in serious condition

(Filed September 8, 2010) A wildland firefighter was injured Tuesday morning while working Scotts Chapel Road Fire—a 12-acre wildfire in Livingston County.  Don Lam, Forest Ranger Technician for the Kentucky Division of Forestry (KDF), is currently in serious condition at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville after being airlifted following the accident. Click here for more.

Groundbreaking held for new bridge

(Filed September 1, 2010) Gov. Steve Beshear today broke ground for the final phase of one of the top transportation projects in western Kentucky – construction of a new bridge to carry US 60 over the Tennessee River between McCracken and Livingston counties. Click here for more.
